Ruth Hohenbrink, 94, of Bluffton, died May 13, 2024, at St. Rita’s Medical Center. 

A funeral mass will take place at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 18, 2024 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bluffton with Father John McLaughlin to officiate.

The Blanchard Valley Health System Auxiliary recently awarded eleven $1,000 scholarships to students in Hancock and surrounding counties interested in pursuing a health-related career.

The 2024 BVHS Auxiliary scholarship winners include Ella Armstrong (Bluffton High School), pursuing a nursing degree at Goshen College and Brooke Camper (Bluffton High School), pursuing a nursing degree at Cedarville University; Kaytlynn Schroeder (Leipsic High School), pursuing a nutrition and dietetics degree at Bluffton University.

Wildlife District Two

State Wildlife Officer Matt D. Smith, assigned to Huron County, received a call from a concerned landowner regarding a young owl that was out of its nest.

A fire at 143 Sunset Drive in Bluffton was discovered at about 8:40 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15. The Bluffton Fire Department reports that the fire was caused by an electrical problem in the basement. Smoke and heat damage are the primary results of the fire.

One occupant was in the home and was able to exit without injuries. He smelled smoke and called 911. Smoke detectors were not present, according to Fire Chief Jon Kinn. 

Bluffton EMS also responded to the call for service. Mutual aid was provided by Beaverdam Fire Department and Pandora Fire Department.
