Riley Creek Baptist Church, 4950 Township Road 27, Bluffton, will observe its 150th anniversary as a church on Sunday, March 24.
The day includes a 9:30 a.m. musical celebration followed by a 10:30 a.m. worship service, followed by a carry-in luncheon. A concluding service is at 2 p.m.
The day’s events celebrate the congregation’s past, present and future.
A community chili cook-off is set for 5:30-7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 20, in the middle school. It benefits the Bluffton Community Assistance Program’s food pantry, according to Lynda Best.
The Bluffton Presbyterian Church mission committee sponsors the event. Last year was the first cook-off.
Best needs volunteers to assist. Volunteers are needed to cook and serve chili (there will be a people’s choice competition), organize donations and concession sales, assist with set-up and tear-down and to promote and attend the event.
Sana Musasama, associate adjunct professor in studio art, Hunter College, will present the Bluffton University Forum, “Time the Unspeakable,” at 11 a.m. on Feb. 5 in Yoder Recital Hall.
During Forum, the award-winning ceramics artist will describe the relationship between her sculptures and the challenging human stories encountered in her global travels. Her “Unspeakable,” showing in Bluffton’s Grace Albrecht Gallery through Feb. 22, features a collection of ceramic mixed-media pieces that pose an inquiry into the nature of violence and healing in women’s lives.
