A memorial service for Luther Shetler who died Dec. 15, 2018, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 19, at First Mennonite Church in Bluffton. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Bluffton University, Camp Friedenswald, First Mennonite Church or Goshen College.  Arrangements have been entrusted with Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services in Bluffton.

Bluffton University students returned to campus today following a holiday break. When they left in December Lincoln Hall existed. Upon their return this is the landscape meeting them.

Kids' night out planned Jan. 26

A Kids’ Night Out is planned from 6 to 10:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Bluffton Middle School, as a fundraiser for the BHS junior class post prom activities.

The event is open to youth ages Kindergarten to age 5. Wear your favorite PJs and bring a pillow and blanket.

There will be snacks, a movie, games, crafts and other activities. All activities are provided by junior class students and parents.

Not enough as Anderson wins

The Bluffton University women's basketball team was defeated by Anderson University, 76-69, on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019. The loss dropped the Beavers to 4-9 on the season (2-4 HCAC), while Anderson improved to 7-6 (3-3 HCAC).

The Beavers got off to a quick 4-0 start after freshman guard Brianna Gillig (New Riegel) hit two layups to begin the game. Anderson would finish the first quarter with a flurry as they tallied the last eight points for a 16-8 advantage at the end of one.

Burton G. Yost, 90, died Jan. 7, 2019, at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.  Burton was born March 5, 1928, in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, to William F. Yost and Alice (Gross) Yost. On Aug. 21, 1949, Burton married Elnore Rosenberger in Quakertown, Pennsylvania, and she survives.

Burton graduated from Lansdale High School in 1945. He received his BA from Bluffton College in 1949, his Master of Divinity from Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Chicago in 1953 and his MA and PhD from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.

Bluffton first grader Easton Dunifon works on a ball exercise in gym class taught by Denny Phillips. The series of photos demostrates the various steps in the exercise that makes you touch your toes. Easton is in Ryan Dunlap's first grade.
