The Allen County Master Gardener volunteers will meet at the Bluffton town hall on Wednesday, Aug. 15.

Online college education platform

Students applying to Bluffton University now have the ability to do so through The Common Application, an online college application platform that makes it easier for students in the United States and around the world to apply. More than three million college applicants, teachers and counselors use the platform each year.

The Common App allows students to fill out a single online form to apply to member colleges and universities, including Bluffton.

According to the website dailycaring.com, smart speakers, like Echo and Google Home, can improve the quality of life for older adults with Alzheimer’s or dementia as well as for seniors with mobility limitations and other health conditions.

One evening a few months ago, Alexa was the hit of the party at Willow Ridge.  Elder Richard Wiechart brought the “smart speaker” out into the dining room and others gathered around asking Alexa to play favorite songs.

“She really livened things up,” Wiechart laughed.  “Sometimes it can get pretty quiet around here.”

One more important step in creating a pathway for pedestrians and bikers is underway on Bentley Road this week. In May the road was widened between Augsburger and the bridge near Kibler. The next photo shows Bentley after grinding took place. The widening of the road is apparent in this photo. A pedestrian pathway will be located on the west side of Bentley once the project is completed.

Responding to Dick Boehr's July 31, 2018 letter to the Icon editor -

To begin, I would like to thank Mr. Boehr for his countless hours of time, energy, and enthusiasm he has dedicated to our community.

Likewise, Sue Cramer deserves a big thank you for all her many efforts on behalf of our historically significant Shannon Cemetery.

And Bernie Ludwig should be commended on making the Shannon Cemetery grounds look incredibly better than they have in a very long time.
