A one-day garage sale on Thursday, Aug. 10, takes place in Bluffton to benefit Deb’s Dogs of Lima according to Connie Anderson, who will hold the sale.

Deb’s Dogs is a rescue operation run by Deb Helser. It’s a non-profit army of animal rescuers in the Lima area.

Anderson said, “This is my third benefit sale. The first was a sale of all of my aunt’s airplane memorabilia, resulting in nearly $1,000 for Angels for Animals. 

July weather was right on the money when it comes to the thermometer. The rain story is a bit different, however.

Guy Verhoff, Pandora weather observer, provides the following weather stats for the month just past.

• Average July 2017 temperature: 73.1 degrees

• Normal average July temperature: 73.2

• July 2017 precipitation: 5.86 inches

• Normal average July precipitation: 3.80 inches

• Maximum July temperature: 88 degrees on July 19

• Minimum July temperature: 54 degrees on July 9

Now the trees are identifed thanks to a Girl Scout troop 20007 project

What’s that tree?

Thanks for the efforts of seven girls in Bluffton Girl Scout Troop 20007 nearly 50 trees in the 20-year-old Village Arboretum are now identified. Gail Clingerman and Sarah Bergstrand are troop leaders who helped with the ambitious project.

Most residents might not even be aware of the arboretum’s existence. But, with the identification project completed, the awareness of the grove and the important part it plays in the community will become more evident over time.

Where Joanne Niswander is nurse practitioner

Mention “Bluffton’s nursery” and the Bluffton Hospital comes to mind.

Another Bluffton nursery exists and it’s very special because it’s for monarch butterflies.This special nursery is at Maple Crest Senior Living Village.

Joanne Niswander is the nurse practitioner. This week the nursery is full of activities. Here’s the story behind the nursery, according to Joanne:

“Our first venture into raising monarch butterflies began in the fall of 2007, when then-MMH administrator, Lynn Thompson, brought a few monarch caterpillars to Maple Crest.

Here is what remains of a barn fire that took place in the early morning hours of Friday. The barn, located on Shifferly Road, is owned by Phil and Sharon Zimmerly. Bluffton and Beaverdam-Richland Township fire departments responded to the blaze.

The following births were reported in July at Bluffton Hospital.
