The Gardeners of the Bluffton/Pandora Area (GBPA) invite the public to a lecture on seed starting basics, at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 12, in the lower level of the Bluffton Public Library, according to Victoria Zeits.
Marilyn Beltz, member and past president of the Hancock County Master Gardener Volunteers, is the speaker.
Two area students were named to the Dean’s List of Defiance College for the fall semester. The two are Sidney Faine of Bluffton and Amie Ricksecker of Jenera.
The honors list is for students achieving a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and enrolled in 6-11 semester hours for which letter grades are given. Students who have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and are enrolled in 12 or more semester hours for which letter grades are given are named to the Dean’s list.
Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center was named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals by IBM Watson Health. The study spotlights the top-performing hospitals in the U.S. list based on a balanced scorecard of publicly available clinical, operational and patient satisfaction metrics and data.
This is the second consecutive year Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center has been recognized among the Top 100 hospitals in the country and remains the only hospital in the region to earn this recognition.
INVENTORY AT BOTTOM

A 2019 village street maintenance schedule is in the works, Jesse Blackburn, village administrator, told Bluffton council members in late February.
The paving schedule was among topics of the council street and alley committee meeting on Feb. 19.
The village compiled a street maintenance inventory covering over 25 streets and alleys. The inventory shows when each street was most recently paved or had work completed. The inventory goes as far back as 2002.
Through artwork, letters and scrapbooks, Bluffton University archivist and 1999 graduate Carrie Phillips is sharing the unique history of Bluffton during and after World War I.
Phillips developed the exhibit “Of Bronze and Bravery” as a complement to “Voices of Conscience,” the traveling Kauffman Museum exhibit on display at Bluffton’s Musselman Library.
The two exhibits highlight the differing experiences of Mennonites during the Great War Era.
