One of the common responses to a diagnosis of cirrhosis, the late stage of progressive liver damage, is “How much does she/he drink?” It is known that excessive alcohol consumption can be associated with cirrhosis. However, there are several causes outside of alcohol consumption.

During Sunday morning service at English Lutheran

In commemoration of the sacrifice of four armed forces Chaplains during World War II, Bluffton American Legion will observe Religious Emphasis Week, Feb. 3 to Feb. 10.

Bluffton American Legion Post 382, Chaplain Basil Meyer has announced the post will observe the sacrifice of Four Armed Forces Chaplains during World War II, during the Sunday, Feb. 4, worship service  at English Lutheran Church.

The public is welcome to attend the service, which begins at 9 a.m.

Beaver women's and men's basketball team win

Men's story is below -

The Bluffton University women's basketball team defeated Mount St. Joseph in a huge HCAC contest by the score of 70-63 on Thursday, Jan. 31.

The win pushed Bluffton to 7-13 (5-8 HCAC), while MSJ dropped to 12-8 and 7-6 in the Heartland Conference. Originally slated for Wednesday night, the extreme temperatures that blanketed the Midwest pushed the game back a night.

Who really won the Bluffton vs. Lafayette boys' basketball game in 1959?

Note: A Charles Hilty confession. Sixty years ago this weekend Bluffton HS played Lafayette in basketball.  The recordbook shows a BHS victory. However, Mr. Hilty, the official game scorekeeper, offers the following correction.

Who won the 1959 Bluffton-Lafayette boys' basketball game? The scoreboard (after some hesitation ) said Bluffton did 61-60, but the referees couldn't decide. One person who held a positive opinion from start to finish was Lafayette coach Bob Harter, who said Lafayette won 60-59.

Jim Carr knows something about snow removal. The retired ODOT employee did his share of plowing snow in rural roads over the years. The Icon caught him in the act on Friday morning, this time on a snow blower working a sidewalk at Lawn and Elm.
