In the mid-1980s, Dr. Elizabeth "Libby" Hostetler had a dream but no money to make it a reality.
A Bluffton faculty member in education, she wanted to create a resource for children to gain necessary skills for developing a vision of peace. While supportive of the idea, the then-college was unable to commit funding, leading Hostetler to the only other possible source she could think of, Lima businessman and Bluffton alumnus Herman Parent.
"Herman was the person I knew who was so generous with his time and service to others," she explained.
Saturday is a day for arts, crafts, food, ponies, music, oh, and, yes, llamas. Bluffton's 41st annual arts and crafts festival is downtown from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Bluffton's annual family-oriented spring arts and crafts show is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, May 12, in downtown Bluffton. The 41st annual show, sponsored by the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce, offers several family-oriented activities.
Over 60 craft and business booth displays will line Main Street Bluffton from the post office to the town hall. Craft displays range from jewelry, yard art, paintings, sand art for kids, antiques, plants and rugs.
