Letter: Last WWI vet is 109 on Feb. 1
Bluffton Icon:
Would you be interested in putting something in the BlufftonIcon inviting people to send a birthday card to Mr. Frank Buckles (the last surviving U.S. WWI veteran)? Mr. Buckles turns 109 on Feb. 1.
I have a draft that people could sign and forward, if they are interested, and have attached it for you. I am going to get my church, the Boy Scouts, my place of employment (Lima Refinery), and some other groups that I'm involved with to print out copies and have them send them on to Mr. Buckles.
I also sent a copy to Bob Amstutz for the Lions and the American Legion to send out. also sent a copy to Mr. Denecker, in case he would like to have the students and faculty take this on as well.
Mr. Buckles' birthday is Feb 1, and his mailing address is:
Mr. Frank Buckles
371 Gap View Farm Lane
Charles Town, WV 25414
You might also check out his website. Mr. Buckles spoke before the U.S. Senate in December, and is requesting that people contact their senators and congressmen regarding the improvement of the District of Columbia WWI Memorial, and to expand it to include this as a National memorial to WWI veterans. Mr. Buckles' website is http://www.frankbuckles.org/
Thanks,
Dan Groman
