Plaughter update from Haiti
(From Barbara and Arliss Plaugher in Haiti)
Note: This message was sent to several persons in Bluffton, including The Icon, and to St. John's United Church of Christ members.
I called American Airlines and we are still scheduled to fly Friday and Saturday, if the tower at the PAP airport is up.
However, the small planes that take us into PAP from our mission compound
cannot fly, due to lack of avaition fuel. Traveling overland is not being
considered now as not knowing the status of the roads. Also the jails
were down and prisoners have escaped.
PAP is an extremely populated city, so we may never know the casualty
count due to the unstable houses and amount of people living in poverty.
I have not received any communication from the people in PAP that I have
been e-mailing with. Chris and Hal Nungester from Harrod has an orphanage there that we were going to visit. Haven't heard from them.
Let the kids know that we are almost done with clinics. From that point
of time on, we don't know for sure. Will keep checking how to get out.
We checked with American airlines to see if we could go to Dominican
Republic but don't think the country will let us in.
