Season of Lent is upon us
THE SIGN OF THE CROSS
Sister Carol Inkrott places the Sign of the Cross on the forehead of Patric Garlock during the Ash Wednesday service at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Feb. 17. Garlock, a member of St. Mary's is a freshman at OSU-Lima. In the Western Christian calendar, is the first day of Lent and occurs 46 days (40 days not counting Sundays) before Easter. It is a moveable fast, falling on a different date each year because it is dependent on the date of Easter. Ash Wednesday derives its name from the practice of placing ashes on the foreheads of adherents as a sign of repentance.
