Caity Matter among BSB's all-decade top 10
Caity Matter, Bluffton High School grad, was recently named to the Buckeye Sports Bulletin top 10 most outstanding Ohio State women's basketball players of the last decade.
Matter was tied for third on the list. According to BSB, the top five players are:
1 - Jessica Davenport (2004-07)
2 - Jantel Lavender (2008-present)
3 - Caity Matter (2001-05)
3 - Brandie Hoskins (2004-07)
5 - Courtney Coleman (2000-03)
Of Matter, BSB said: "A 5-9 guard from Bluffton, Ohio, Matter set the Big Ten record for three-point field goals in a season with 106 in 2003. She also set the conference record with 60 in conference games that season.
"Matter led the Big Ten in three-point shooting percentage (47.4) in 2005 and went on to finish third in Big Ten history with 270 three-point field goals, a total that remains the all-time Ohio State record.
"Her 1,523 career points are 12th most in school history, and she led OSU in scoring in both the 2003 (15.4) and '04 seasons (14.8).
"In 2005, she scored 13.3 points per game (second best on the team) and helped the Buckeyes win the Big Ten championship and advance to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1993.
"Entering this season, her career three-point shooting percentage (41.1) was second only to Purdue guard Jodi Howell in Big Ten annals. Through Feb. 14, Howell's career three-point percentage was 41.8.
"After averaging 13.2 points in 113 career games as a Buckeye, Matter played briefly for the Charlotte Sting of the WNBA."
