Ruth Oyer Schumacher 1919-2010
Ruth Oyer Schumacher, age 91, died on March 13, 2010, in Aurora, Colo.
Mrs. Oyer was born on Jan, 16, 1919, to Amos and Phoebe (Steiner) Oyer in Waldron, Michn She married C. Edward Schumacher in 1943, who preceded her in death.
She graduated from Bluffton High School and received nurse's training in Chicago. She worked as a registered nurse and volunteered at several hospitals throughout her life.
She was an accomplished author who wrote a book about her family. She lived in the Detroit area for many years, where she worked at Wayne State University, and also lived in Hot Springs Village, Ark.
Survivors include her three daughters, Diane Ives of Brighton, Mich., Sue Joralemon of Denver, Colo., and Jean Crane of Seattle, Wash.; six grandchildren; and two sisters, Ethlyn Rice and Alice Niswander both of Bluffton.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 19, at 11 a.m. at the Bluffton Presbyterian Church. Rev. Lewis VanderNaald officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Bluffton. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorials contributions may be made to Bluffton University or to The Salvation Army. Arrangements are under the direction of Chiles-Laman Funeral Home, Bluffton.
