Tickets are on sale for Bluffton University's fall production of "The Glass Menagerie," by Tennessee Williams.
Dr. Melissa Friesen, associate professor and chair of communication and theatre at Bluffton, will direct the show, being staged at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 4-6 and at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 7 in Ramseyer Auditorium in College Hall. Tickets, $7.50 for adults and $5.50 for senior citizens (65 and over) and non-Bluffton students, are available online at http://tickets.bluffton.edu or by contacting the box office at 419-358-3239 or [email protected].
Structured as a memory play, "The Glass Menagerie" is narrated by Tom Wingfield. At the play's emotional core is Tom's fragile sister Laura, a shy young woman who lives in a world of phonograph records and her collection of glass animals. When their mother Amanda suggests that Tom bring home a "gentleman caller" for Laura, Tom sees a way out and invites his coworker Jim over for dinner. This drama about shattered illusions, complex family dynamics and our responsibilities to one another is one of the most famous plays of the American theatre.
Cast members include Jared Hudson of Cincinnati, as Tom; Sarah Diller of Bluffton, as Amanda; Olivia Trumble of Jenison, Mich., as Laura; and Eliot Nofziger of Archbold, as Jim.
Students in production roles include Victoria Miller of Jeromesville, stage manager; Megan Hilkey of North Canton, assistant stage manager; Aaron Yost of Pinetop, Ariz., dramaturg (research assistant); Scott Troyer of Sugarcreek, lighting assistant; Brittany Steele of Bluffton, costume assistant; and Lydia Speicher of Marysville, scenic design assistant.
Paula Unrau, an adjunct instructor of theatre and English at Bluffton, is costume designer for the play, and Mervin Schrock of Findlay, is the technical director.
