MDS communications director Nov. 9 university forum speaker
Scott Sundberg, director of communications at Mennonite Disaster Service, will speak Tuesday, Nov. 9, at a Bluffton University Forum titled "Disasters Are Like the Poor: A Look at the Response, Responsibility, Resources and Respect from a MDS and Anabaptist Perspective." Beginning at 11 a.m. in Founders Hall, the event is free and open to the public.
Sundberg's talk will focus on how disasters, human generated and natural, impact people on the margins, significantly affecting people who are living in poverty more than those living in mainstream communities. He will discuss how an Anabaptist perspective of helping your neighbor impacts our response to helping those affected by disasters.
Sundberg has a bachelor's degree in European history from Biola University in La Mirada, Calif. He has done graduate work in Scandinavian studies at UCLA and in education and ethnic studies at California State University-Northridge.
