Gideon Steiner 1917-2010
Gideon Steiner, 93, of Bluffton died 2:40 pm Nov. 10, 2010, at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. He was born April 10, 1917, in Ontario, Canada, to Gideon and Sarah Wilhelm Steiner.
On Dec. 8, 1941 he married Ellnora Amstutz and she preceded him in death on Aug. 17, 1995. Mr. Steiner retired from Durez Corp., Kenton where he was a first class stationary engineer. He also worked at BLH, Lima and was a custodian at the Bluffton Schools.
Mr. Steiner was a member of the Emmanuel United Church of Christ, American Legion Post 382 and the Senior Citizens Center all of Bluffton.
He was a graduate of Mt. Cory High School and a WWII Army veteran where he served in Africa, France and Central Europe.
Mr. Steiner is survived by a son, Sharl (Nancy) Steiner of Bluffton, three grandchildren, Brad (Judy) Steiner, Michele (Dave) Etzler, Jodi (Dave) Pretnar, nine great grandchildren, Lance, Ryan and Tyler Steiner, Austin, Clark, Mallory and Aubrey Etzler, Addison and Kallie Pretnar, and three sisters, Verena Nichols of Wapakoneta, Ruth Slusser of Celina and Muriel Wiseley of Alvada.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Woodrow and Franklin Steiner and a sister, Hilda Reichenbach.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Monday at the Emmanuel United Church, Bluffton. Rev. Eric Rummel will officiate. Burial will be in Rockport Cemetery with military rites by the Bluffton American Legion.
Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Home, Bluffton. Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel United Church of Christ or Mennonite Memorial Home.
