Boyd Leon Clapper 1912-2010
Boyd Leon Clapper, 98, of Ada, died 10:20 a.m. Dec. 4, 2010 at Richland Manor Nursing Home, Bluffton.
He was born April 12, 1912, in Paw Paw, Michigan, to Boyd and Edith Brown Clapper who preceded him in death. On Feb. 23, 1941 he married Phoebe Wilkins Clapper and had been married 69 years.
His family moved to Orange Township, Hancock County when he was 7 years old. He was a graduate of Ada High School in the class of 1930.
Boyd is survived by his wife Phoebe; a daughter Joyce (Thomas) Martin of Georgia; a granddaughter Elisabeth (Joseph) Darnell of Georgia; two great grandchildren, Reese and Jude Darnell; and two nieces, Betty (Jack) May and Marlene Loescher both of Lima.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Norma Clapper, a granddaughter Lydia Martin, a brother George Clapper, and a sister Elizabeth (Claire) Walker of San Antonio, Texas.
Mr. Clapper was a farmer and a former advisor for the Lafayette Boys and Girls 4-H Club. In 1964, he received the Honorary Chapter Farmer award from the Lafayette FFA. He was a former member of the Farm Bureau.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Home, Bluffton. Rev. Harrison Underwood will officiate. Burial will be in Clymer Cemetery, Mt. Cory. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions in honor of Boyd should be made to any charity of your choice.
