Lucile Sylvia Holcomb 1918-2011
Lucile Sylvia Holcomb, 92, of Wadsworth, Ohio, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011. She was born Nov. 20, 1918, in Dalton, Ohio to Amos and Minnie (Santmeyer) Tschantz.
Mrs. Holcomb was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, retired from the West Unity school district, and the Wadsworth City School district.
She graduated from Dalton High School in 1937 and from Bluffton College in 1942 with a major in Home Economics. She was May Queen at Bluffton Coilege in 1942, the Wadsworth Citizen of the Year Award in 1980, and was the first recipient to receive the Bluffon College Distinguished Alumni Award. She also started the Wadsworth Meals on Wheels program in 1975.
Mrs. Holcomb was preceded in death by siblings Stanley, Mildred, Marie and Harold. She is survived by her husband Raymond, with whom she celebrated 67 years of marriage in October, children Ann (Jerry) Steiner of Vancouver, Wash., Norman (Jan) Holcomb of New Bremen, Deborah Holcomb (Carol Kerr) of Rittman, and Mary (Mark) Shaffer of Loveland, Colo., as well as grandchildren Alicia Steiner, Carrie (Steve) Phillips, (of Bluffton), Matthew (Kathryn) Holcomb, Jeanne Shaffer, Scott Shaffer, Trent Shaffer, great-granddaughter Claire Phillips, and sister Evelyn (Richard) Moser of Dalton.
The family will receive friends Monday, Jan. 24, from 2-5 p.m. at the Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman St., Wadsworth.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, at Grace Lutheran Church, 146 High St., Wadsworth, with the Rev. Ann Paynter officiating.
Internment will be at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Wadswotth Lions Club Sight Program or Grace Lutheran Church.
