Steampunk book discussion sizzles at library

To celebrate Teen Tech Week, Bluffton Public Library will host a free book discussion for teens in grades 6-12. Copies of the book Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld are available at the library and any teen wishing to participate will be allowed to keep the book if they attend the discussion at the library on March 12 at 10 a.m.

Brunch will be provided at the discussion and all participants are encouraged to stay and enjoy the following Steampunk Awareness Day activities.

Copies of Leviathan were purchased with grant monies the library recently received from the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA).

The ten grants awarded this year are funded by the Margaret A. Edwards Trust and give each winning library $450 cash and $50 worth of official Teen Tech Week products to support a reading program that incorporates technology to celebrate Teen Tech Week, March 6-12.

Teen Tech Week is a national initiative aimed at teens, their parents, educators and other concerned adults to ensure that teens are competent and ethical users of technologies, especially those that are offered through libraries.

Teen Tech Week encourages teens to use libraries' many free nonprint resources for education and recreation, and to recognize that librarians are qualified, trusted professionals in the field of information technology.
