The Bluffton American Legion Post 382 has selected one Bluffton High School senior-to-be to attend Buckeye Girls State and one to attend Buckeye Boys State, according to Robert Amstutz, Post commander.

Buckeye Girls State is held at the University of Mount Union, Alliance. The session begins June 12 and ends June 18. There will be 900 girls participating in this 65th annual session.

It is a fast-paced program of mock government at state, county and city levels. The main objective of the Girls State program is to train young women, who have completed their junior year in high school, in duties, rights, and privileges of citizenship by providing the attendee the opportunity actively participate in a democratic form of government.

Bluffton High School's delegate is Jenna Buroker. The alternate is Ashlin Gable.

On arrival at the university all the girls will be assigned to one of two political parties. The residence hall in which they live during the program will be their designated county and the floor on which they live will be their city.

The students will file petitions for candidacy for a variety of offices from governor to city council and participate in the election process. After elections and inaugurations, they will put government in action.

Buckeye Boys State is held at Bowling Green State University, June 11 through June 19. Chase Wilson has been selected as the Buckeye Boys State delegate and Nathan Little is the Buckeye Boys State alternate.

The American Legion Buckeye Boys State is a nine-day intensive education program on Ohio government for high school students. Ohio Buckeye Boys State is a program where each participant becomes a part of the operation of a local, county and state government.

Buckeye Boys State participants are exposed to the rights, privileges, duties and responsibilities of a franchised citizen. The training is objective and practical with a city, county and state government operated by the students elected to various offices. Activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, assemblies, a band, and recreation. High School juniors are selected by local American Legion Posts.

"It is a pleasure to send these will qualified students to the Buckeye Boys and Girls state. They will be great ambassadors of the Bluffton area students. The Bluffton American Legion Post 382 is proud of the present students and those attending in the past. Their experiences will be with them for a lifetime,"said Amstutz.
