Lady Pirates keep NWC title shot alive
The Lady Pirate defense put on a top notch performance as they held off the Lincolnview Lancers Monday in an NWC match-up.
The Pirates, looking to keep their NWC title shot alive, defeated the Lancers 6-5 at Harmon Field. The Pirates started off with a single by Ashlin Gable. Gable was able to score off an error hit by Molly Lengyel.
The Pirates trailed the Lancers 3-1 in the second inning before the bats came alive. Katie Palte was able to reach first base on a nicely placed bunt, followed by a walk by Lexi Luginbihl. Briana Laing blasted a double scoring Palte.
Shannon McKamey added a single off an error, scoring Luginbihl and Laing. Gable stroked a hard hit double, allowing McKamey to score placing the Pirates up 5-3 in the third inning. The Pirates added one run in the fourth off a double by Lengyel to lead the Lancers 6-3.
The defense held the Lancers at 3 runs until the seventh inning. Lincolnview started off the 7th inning with a walk by their lead off batter. The next batter hit a fly out to Luginbihl in right field.
The Lancers scored off a single, and added one more run off a double. After another walk, the Pirates found themselves with bases loaded, only one out, and up 6-5. Palte picked off the next hit with the force out to Lengyel at home and added the final out to Gable at first securing the narrow 6-5 victory for the Lady Pirates. Kayla Longworth earned the win on the mound boosting her to 7-4.
The Pirates are now 9-5 overall and 4-1 in the NWC. The Lady Pirates will travel to Allen East Tuesday for an NWC match up and Paulding Thursday for another NWC game.
