The Delphos Jefferson Wildcats couldn't quite get their paws on base as Kayla Longworth and the Pirate defense tamed the Cats in 5 innings Wednesday night at Harmon Field.

Longworth threw only 39 pitches, allowing 3 hits, earning one strike out and walking one batter. The Pirate defense combined to allow only four Delphos at bats each inning, securing the 10-0 victory.

The Lady Pirates started off with a strong first inning, batting through the line-up before the Wildcats were able to pull together. Briana Laing got things started for the Pirates, reaching first base on a bunt and quickly stealing second.

Shannon McKamey followed with a single and both Pirate base runners placed themselves in scoring position on steals. Molly Lengyel chalked up the next Pirate single and added an RBI bringing in Laing.

The Pirate hits just kept coming as Adrian Rumer earned her own base hit RBI, batting in McKamey and Mariah Welch was able to bring home pinch runner Olivia Hunt on a single.

Katie Palte laid down a bunt and Lexi Luginbuhl added an RBI single batting in Welch, Palte was also able to score on a defensive error, bringing the Pirates to 6 runs in the first inning.

The Lady Pirates continued their assault in the second inning with a McKamey single and an RBI double by Ashin Gable. Rumer added a single and Welch a sacrifice RBI to put the Pirates up 8-0. The final 2 Pirate runs were earned on another double by Gable in the third inning, as she batted in Sierra Amstutz and Laing.

The Pirates improve to 10-5 overall and 4-1 in the NWC. The Lady Pirates will travel to Paulding Thursday for an NWC battle with the Panthers.
