Golf cart accident sends girl to Columbus hospital
Bluffton emergency officials were called to an injury traffic crash involving a golf cart at 11:01 p.m. on Sunday, June 19. The crash occurred on Riverbend Drive near Sycamore Court, which has a 25 m.p.h. speed limit.
Officers investigating the crash discovered Jessica J. Brockert, a 16- year-old Bluffton female, was on the back of the golf cart when she fell from the vehicle to the ground. At this time, it is not clear what caused the girl to fall from the moving cart, according to Rick Skilliter, Bluffton police chief.
The golf cart was being driven by Michael Sheehan, 17, of the rural Bluffton area. There were two other juvenile occupants of the golf cart at the time of the crash. The golf cart was equipped with adequate seating for the four occupants.
Brockert was taken by Bluffton EMS to St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima. She was then transferred to a Columbus hospital.
The incident remains under investigation.
