Curbside service debuts at public library June 1

Library doors will be locked; patrons will be unable to enter the building

Starting Monday, June 1, patrons of Bluffton Public Library may begin dropping off checked out library materials and scheduling pickups of available library materials, according to Jessica Hermiller, library director.

All library material drop-offs may be done at the library's 24-hour outdoor book drop only. The library doors will be locked and patrons will be unable to enter the building.

Here are school plans for 2020-21

Greg Denecker, Bluffton superintendent, provided the following letter to parents and students concerning plans for next school year. It is also posted on the school website.

No swim lessons planned at this time

Anticipated pool opening June 6 weekend

At this time there are no plans for swim lessons to take place at the Bluffton Community Swimming Pool, according to Jesse Blackburn, village administrator.

The following includes admission prices and pool hours for when the pool eventually opens – hoping to be the weekend of June 6.

Marcene Zimmerman Pope was a Bluffton High School graduate

Marcene Jane Pope, 79 of Paragould, Arkansas, died at 8:56 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2020.

She was born on Jan. 5, 1941 in Bluffton, Ohio, to Oscar and Vera (Herr) Zimmerman who preceded her in death. Marcene married Joseph Pope on Sept. 25, 1960 and they later divorced. 

Marcene was a homemaker.  She was a graduate of Bluffton High School.

Jerry Liebrecht was a retired foster care licensing supervisor

Jerome J. Liebrecht, 91, of Lambertville, Michigan, and formerly of Ottoville, Columbus Grove and Lima, died May 10, 2020. 

He remained very active throughout retirement, but couldn’t overcome COVID-19.  A private celebration was held May 16. A replay is via Facebook at Assembly of Reformed Christians. 

Jerry was born in Ottoville on March 27, 1929, to William and Catherine (Knapp) Liebrecht. He attended seminary for three years at the Pontifical College Josephinium in Columbus before graduating from Ottoville High School.

Scarlet Oberly holds her mother, Jessica's hand, as she crosses the rainbow and moves on from this year's St. Mary's Christian Preschool. The celebration was Friday at the church.
