30 university students help, learn at drug summit
Thirty Bluffton students, along with Heather Koontz, assistant professor of social work, were among the more than 900 people who attended a Sept. 8 community summit on bath salts and opiates at the Lima Civic Center.
The students worked as volunteers at the event, where they helped park cars, greet people at the door and collect cards for attendees' continuing education units, among other services.
They also saw a presentation of Operation Street Smart, a program aimed at providing current information on narcotics trends, terminology, paraphernalia and physiological effects to individuals who deal daily with youth.
In addition to the students' help with coordination of the event, the university's social work department was among the sponsors.
