The Bluffton Community Swimming Pool operated with a deficit of $12,553 in 2011, although, as Dave Steiner, council member said, after hearing the report, that the pool is still a good investment for the community.

This year the pool had revenue of $57,746 and expenses of $70,300, according to Nancy Kindle, village fiscal officer. She said that this year's report many appear better than previous years because of some accounting changes made.

"This report shows the true cost it takes to operate the pool," she said.

Jamie Mehaffie, village administrator, informed council that there is considerable maintenance required at the pool this fall.

"This past season represents the 20th season of the pool and the infrastructure of the pool needs some maintenance," he said. "Colonial Surface Solutions is preparing a quote to rehabilitate and refinish the slide supports and the diving board supports."

Mehaffie told council that the village has received a grant agreement from the Federal Aviation Administration. The grant will be used to rehabilitate the apron at the airport. The grant also includes initial cleaning and sealing of the asphalt and the design necessary to fully rehabilitate the apron.

Nate Ulrey of Arbor Elite will begin to remove the ash trees in the Buckeye and village parks. There are 43 ash trees to be removed. Many of the stumps will remain in place according to Mehaffie, especially at the Buckeye. They will remain to mitigate erosion on the banks of the quarry and creek.

Jon Kinn, fire chief, announced that the fire department will hold an open house on Saturday, Oct. 15, at the fire station. More details are coming.

A decision on which night Bluffton will celebrate Halloween will be delayed until it is determined what night the celebration will occur in other area communities.

The Sept. 19 council as a whole meeting was moved to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 21, due to some other meeting conflicts.
