Letter: Group interested in having a Bluffton High School swim team
Icon viewers:
The Bluffton Summer Swim Coaches have tried yet again (with no avail) to persuade the Bluffton Exempted School District to allow a High School Swim Team the ability to perform with the sponsorship (non-monetary or the like) of Bluffton Schools.
The major argument against the installation of a Swim Team was that the District cannot fund another Varsity Sport. Our intent was to create a club team which would not require a financial backing from the school.
However, the School felt that it was either all or nothing. Going back to finances, the School just granted and approved sponsorship of a Indoor Track Team. The Bluffton Athletic Boosters also spent around $8,000 on a blowup run-thru for our Football team. Now where are the funds for that?
It was also mentioned that there is a lack of competition from conference schools. The School claimed that only one school in our conference has a swim team.
However, if the school did their research they would find that there are actually three that the Bluffton Swim Team is aware of.
#1 Ada
#2 LCC
#3 USV (club swim under the coaching of Kenton).
If Bluffton is to have a High School Swim Team we need 30+ parents/athletes to show their support by voicing their desires at School Board Meetings. There is strength in numbers!
