The Bluffton University women's soccer team hosted Indiana Tech on Saturday, September 17. The teams proved to be even opponents as the match ended in a draw with a score of 1-1 at the end of two extra sessions. The Beavers record goes to 2-1-1, while the Warriors move to 5-2-1.
The defensive battle saw the match remain scoreless for a majority of the first period. Sophomore Jessica Ramirez (Archbold) punched in the first goal of the night with just 10 minutes left in the period thanks to a nice feed from sophomore Megan Moreo (Spencerville/Delphos Jefferson). The Beavers took a 1-0 lead into the break.
The defensive battle continued until the 80-minute mark when Indiana Tech's Manuela Cabal found the back of the net to tie the game 1-1. Both teams went scoreless in the two overtimes as the match ended in a 1-1 tie.
The Warriors outshot the Beavers, putting up 22 shots, 14 on goal. Bluffton finished with 15 attempts, nine on goal. Bluffton proved to be more aggressive as they were whistled for three more fouls (10-7). Sophomore keeper Maggie Armstrong (Vevay, Ind./Switzerland County) picked up 13 saves in the tie.
Leading the offense for the Beavers were freshman Taylor Fultz (Camden/Preble Shawnee) and Ramirez with seven and three shots, respectively.
The Beavers return to the field on Tuesday, Sept. 20, when they host Ohio Christian at Sears Complex. The match is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
