Girls' tennis: Pirate winning streak ends at Wapak
A strong St. Marys team put an end to the record-breaking winning streak of the Bluffton High School girls tennis team Monday, scoring a 4-1 decision over the visitors.
The Roughrider girls, an upper division team in the Western Buckeye League, ran their record to 11-4 by taking two of the three singles matches and both doubles events. BHS is now 10-2 after its 10-match victory skein ended.
Kristi Geiser took a straight-set decision at No. 3 singles for the Lady Pirates, while Emily Sprague was edged out at No. 2 in a three-set match. Ashlin Gable was dropped in straight sets at No. 1.
The No. 1 doubles team of Shannon Koch and Shaye Liddick also had a close three-set match loss, while Rachel Sehlhorst and Bronwyn Greer lost a two-setter at No. 2.
Van Wert, another top WBL school, is to invade Harmon Field courts today (Tuesday) in Bluffton's final home match. BHS is at LCC Thursday for a makeup match and travels to Archbold Saturday.
