The Bluffton University men's soccer team traveled to Kentucky on October 1 to face perennial-power Transylvania in an HCAC matchup. The Beavers struggled as they dropped a 5-0 decision to Transy. Bluffton slipped to 0-10 overall with a 0-2 mark in the HCAC. The Pioneers improved to 4-4-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
The Pioneers wasted no time as they punched one in at the 2:09 mark from Peter Mikhail. The Pioneers took advantage of an own goal just four minutes later. Vinny Paiva found the goal one more time before the break to give the Pioneers a 3-0 lead. The home team capitalized two more times in the second half. Robbie Gorham buried a free kick and Ethan Collins capped the scoring just before the final horn sounded as the Pioneers picked up a 5-0 victory.
Transy outshot the Beavers, putting up 25 shots, 13 on goal. Bluffton was held to only three attempts, two on frame. The teams both picked up 10 fouls. Senior keeper Dan Saville (Toledo/Central Catholic) was credited with four saves in the loss, while freshman Jorge Becerril (Sturgis, Mich.) also picked up four saves. Kelly Barnes (Toledo/Toledo Christian), Jordan Andrews (Clinton Township, Mich./Chippewa Valley) and Jared Minderman (Cincinnati/Lakota West) each fired a shot. Barnes and Andrews both put their attempts on frame.
The Beavers return to the field on Wednesday, Oct. 5, when they travel to Richmond, Ind., to face Earlham College. The match is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
