The Bluffton Fire Department will hold an open house to coincide with National Fire Prevention Week, according to Jon Kinn, fire chief. The open house will be held Saturday, Oct. 15 at the fire station, 402 N. Main St.

The fire department will perform demonstrations from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Demonstrations will include Jaws of Life extrication, use of fire extinguishers, and what to do in the event of a grease fire.

The demos will be repeated in the afternoon. A smoke trailer will be on hand to tour, children can use an actual fire hose, and tours of the station and equipment will take place throughout the day.

From noon to 1:30 p.m. a chili lunch will take place. Menu will consist of all you can eat chili, cornbread, veggie tray and drink. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children. Tickets are available from any fire personnel, by leaving a message at 419-358-8606 (option 1) or can be purchased at the door.

There will also be a drawing for a homemade quilt donated by Ella Bazzy. Tickets for the quilt are $5 each and the winner does not need to be present to win. Any proceeds from the chili lunch and quilt raffle will benefit the fire department for training funding and purchase of equipment.
