The Eric Garmatter coach era started with a "W" as Bluffton High School girls launched the 2011-12 basketball season with 50-41 win over Cory-Rawson in the first round of the McDonalds' holiday tournament at BHS on Nov. 25.
Bluffton faces Arlington on Nov. 26 in the title game at 8 a.m. Arlington was a 59-31 winner over Allen East.
Cory-Rawson took a 14-8 first period lead and led 24-23 at halftime. A third quarter scoring spree by the Lady Pirates made the difference in the contest as BHS outscored C-R 14-4.
Both teams scored 14 points in the final period. Bailey Prichard led Bluffton with 19, Olivia Hunt scored 8 including one 3-pointer, Lydia Guagenti 7, Paige Buroker 9 including one 3-pointer, Alexis Lugibihl 5 and Sierra Amstutz 2.
Guagenti had 15 rebounds and Prichard 8.
