An evening of dulcimer Christmas music on Nov. 30
Three area dulcimer players and groups will take the stage at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, in the third floor of the Blufftyon town hall for concert of Christmas music.
Appalachian Mountain dulcimers will celebrate Christmas, not only as they've been played in the past, but as they are interpreted and dynamically re-created today.
Vicki Stuckert
Vicki Stuckert has been playing the mountain dulcimer since 1999. She
has taught hundreds how to play the mountain dulcimer with her own
special beginner strip method. She has 25 dulcimers that she travels
with that allow for hands on instruction. In 2003 she won first place
in the contemporary mountain dulcimer at the Ohio Hills Folk
Festival.
The Conkers
The Conkers are a family group who have been performing traditional
music together for over 25 years, and their many talents include Appalachian Dulcimer playing. They have taken 10 trips to
England where they traveled widely, observing and taking part in many
traditional customs. The individual members of Conkers are Sharon
Wildermuth, her husband, Michael, and her sister, Sheila Rowe.
Wendy Chappell-Dick
For Wendy Chappell-Dick dulcimers "go" with Christmas. She grew up with a Kentucky-made dulcimer on the wall of her family home and her mother would take it down every Christmas to play simple and beautiful traditional carols.
She plays a dulcimer made by Paul Conrad of Millersburg, Ohio, who writes, I've found building dulcimers to be a highly reflective and meditative-almost spiritual-process.
Wendy will be joined by Nancy Corle and Jan Wiebe.
