Season of giving takes place at Founders Hall
Jacob Atkins (right), a Bluffton University senior from Spencerville, looks over donated food items while Rachael LeFever (left), a junior from Orrville, makes a donation Saturday, Dec. 3, in Bluffton's Founders Hall.
Atkins and other students in a "Planning for Special Events" class hosted "A Season of Giving" at the day's men's and women's basketball games, where they collected more than 700 items-enough to fill 18 boxes-for the Bluffton Community Assistance Food Pantry.
For every can of food that fans brought to the games, they received one ticket for prize drawings held throughout the afternoon.
Grand-prize winners were Nicholas Jebsen of Bluffton, who received an Apple iPad 2, and Kimberly Perry, a first-year Bluffton student from West Alexandria, who won two tickets to the Ohio State-Michigan men's basketball game Jan. 29 in Columbus.
McDonald's of Bluffton and Monsanto sponsored the event.
