International Women's Day concert March 8 in town hall
Bluffton will celebrate International Women's Day on Thursday, March 8, with a 7 p.m. concert in the town hall starring feminist and activist Sue Jeffers of Kent, according to Wendy Chappell-Dick.
The concert is part of the Town Hall Concert Series of the Bluffton Cultural Affairs Committee.
She said: "Each year around the world, International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8. Thousands of events occur not just on this day but throughout March to mark the economic, political and social achievements of women. Organizations, governments, charities and women's groups around the world choose different themes each year that reflect global and local gender issues."
"Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures" is the 2012 theme of the internationalwomensday.com website and this has been widely used by hundreds of organizations including schools, universities, and the private sector.
And, in keeping with the theme "Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures" the Girl Scout Brownies will have a cookie booth, raising funds to help expand leadership, service and adventure opportunities for local girls.
