Bluffton competes at Yellow Jacket Invitational

The Bluffton men's and women's track and field team proved their toughness as they competed at a chilly Yellow Jacket Invitational, hosted by Cedarville University on March 31, 2012.
Pacing the women on the track was Kayla Mullenhour (Delphos/Jefferson) who took a half second off her previous personal record and ran a new lifetime best of 68.42, placing 5th overall. Mackenzie Mayer (Versailles) also ran a personal best in the 1,500 with a time of 5:58.10.
Senior Megan Neal (Arlington) led the way in field events as she placed 2nd in the hammer (153'10) and 5th in the javelin (88'08).
On the men's side, Andy Chaffee (Clarkston, Mich.) ran a new lifetime best in the steeplechase with a time of 10:25.38 and placed 2nd overall. Ryan Schadewald (Lima/Bath) and Chris Arnold (Fort Wayne, Ind./Canterbury) were an impressive duo in the 5,000 as they both ran new personal records of 16:30.86 and 17:44.40, respectively. Aaron Brown (Mechanicsburg) ran a new personal best in the 800 with a time of 2:08.65 and Jordan Wegner (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka) improved his 200 time with a new personal best of 28.54.
Leading the men in the field events was Jeff Parker (Bristol, Ind./Northridge) as he placed 3rd in the javelin (149'10), 8th in the shot put (39'5.75) and jumped a personal record of 19'09 in long jump. Additionally, Bryan Heckathorn (Hartville) placed 7th in the shot put (40'07) and Rob Cook (Convoy/Crestview) threw a personal record in the javelin (114'02).
As her team was competing at Cedarville University, Alison Janzen (Whitewater, Kan./Remington) traveled to Hanover College to compete in her first 10,000-meter race. With a time of 40:12.08, Janzen was the 2nd collegiate runner to cross the finish line and placed 6th overall.
The Bluffton track and field team will be back in action on Saturday, April 7, 2012 when they travel to Ohio Wesleyan University for the Marv Frye Invitational.
