Three university student music recitals on the calendar
Pianist Timothy Yoder will perform his Bluffton University senior recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 20, in Yoder Recital Hall.
The recital is free and open to the public; a reception will follow in the lobby.
Yoder, from Dalton, will present numbers by Haydn, George Gershwin, Bach and Schumann. He is a student of Dr. Lucia Unrau, professor and chair of music at Bluffton.
Stephanie Patterson and James Brake will present their senior recitals on Sunday, April 22, in Yoder Recital Hall.
Patterson, from Findlay, will give a voice and piano recital at 2:30 p.m., while Brake, from Ohio City, will perform on percussion at 4:30 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public, with a reception to follow each in the lobby.
A mezzo-soprano, Patterson will sing numbers by Bach and Brahms, among others, with accompaniment by pianists Anya Stembler-Smith and Allison Ringold. The piano portion of her recital includes music by Brahms and Mozart. In addition, Patterson will present an arrangement of Pachelbel's "Canon in D," assisted by Dr. Lucia Unrau, professor and chair of music at Bluffton and her piano instructor; "His Eye is on the Sparrow," with vocalist Dr. Crystal Sellers, an assistant professor of music and her voice instructor; and "Beautiful Peace," by Bluffton sophomore Ian Hayes, who will accompany her on guitar.
Brake will perform on marimba, timpani, vibraphone and drums. His program includes "Carousel," a duet for vibraphone and marimba with his instructor, adjunct faculty member Dennis Crites; "Acid Rain," which Brake composed for vibraphone; and Gene Krupa's "Drummin' Man." On the latter number, Brake, on drums, will be part of a quartet also including Bluffton alumni Myles Bowers (trumpet), Phil Schey (piano) and Kevin Farmer (bass).
