Lots of activities Sunday - here's what's happening, where and when
A weekend full of several events is on Bluffton's calendar Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 4-5. Here's a capsule of events:
SATURDAY
Et Cetera Shop "Back to school sale"
Bluffton's Et Cetera Shop, 111 S. Main St., will hold a "back to school sale," from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 4. The sale features a "kid's overflowing clothing sale," Chrissy Lugibihl, store manager, told The Icon.
All clothing is $1 each, or $7 for a bag. The sale will be set up in the alley between Et Cetera and Edward Jones.
Et Cetera reminds Icon viewers to check out the children's book sale at Book Reviews, 123 S. Main St., will be be held during the Aug. 4 sale hours.
Bluffton Public Library photo exhibit opens;
tips on taking night photography talk presented
Bluffton Public Library is hosting a photo exhibit on Saturday, Aug. 4, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. All photography on display was submitted as part of the library's second Amateur Photo Contest, sponsored by Greg's Pharmacy.
Prizes for youth and high school categories have been made possible by the Friends of the Library and various donors.
A list of summer program donors is available in the library and at www.blufftonpubliclibrary.org.
Local camera enthusiast, Fred Steiner, will host an informal program on Shooting Night Scenes Aug. 4 at 10 a.m. prior to the photo exhibit.
Both events are being held in the Richland Room at Bluffton Public Library, 145 S. Main St., and are free and open to the public.

Farmers' market 8:30 a.m. to noon
The weekly Saturday farmers' market takes place from 8:30 a.m. to noon. It is located in the Citizens National Bank parking lot between the bank and the post office.
SUNDAY
4-H Club chicken barbecue
The Bluffton Cattle 4-H Club is holding a chicken barbecue in the Bluffton Middle School cafetorium on Sunday, Aug. 5, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.?
The cost will be $7.50 per dinner and includes chicken, green beans, applesauce and a roll. Desserts will be available at an additional cost.

Chamber music ensemble concert
at English Lutheran Church
Beauty in the Blends, a chamber music ensemble, will present a concert at the English Lutheran Church, 111 Grove Street, Sunday, Aug. 5, at 3 p.m.
The ensemble features local soprano Marlyce Gundy, mezzo-soprano Sharon Schermbrucker from Saturna Island, British Columbia, Canada, flutist Adam Schattschneider, woodwinds professor at Bluffton University, and pianist Barbara Young of Lima, former member of the music faculty at Bluffton University.
The group will be joined on selected numbers by accomplished local guest musicians, Jeremy (oboe, English horn), and Julia (mezzo-soprano) Szabo.
The concert will feature a variety of music: classical sacred works, gospel and jazz pieces, art songs, folk songs, and operatic numbers by composers such as Mozart, Vivaldi, John Rutter, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Mendelssohn, Dvorak, Tchaikovsky and George Gershwin.
The concert is free and open to the public. A freewill offering will be taken.
St. John's United Church of Christ
ice cream social
Top off the weekend by visiting the St. John's United Church of Christ's ice cream social Sunday, Aug. 5, from 4 to 6 p.m. The event at the church, located at the corner of Jackson and College includes several items:
o Homemade ice cream
o Homemade fruit pies and cobbler
o Chicken sandwiches
o Hot dogs
o Potato chips
Meals are $5 and ice cream is $2.50. The event is sponsored by the church Evangelism Committee.
