Second lightning delayed game of year ends in 82-point shootout
By Bryan Kress
Bluffton not only took on an undefeated Ada team, but also had to battle the elements as the second lightning postponed game of the season started in Bluffton and ended Saturday in Ada.
Despite the weather offense was all over the field as Bluffton fell to Ada 53-29. A 27-0 Ada first quarter doomed the Pirates, which ended up being the deciding factor in the game as Bluffton outscored Ada in every quarter from there on.
Bluffton gave up four 20-plus yard touchdowns in the first quarter including a 71-yard rush and an interception return for a score.
The Pirates opened up their scoring in the second quarter with a 26-yard touchdown run by Zach Wilson, but Ada answered back to make the score 33-7 at the half.
Robbie Stratton started the second half right with a 59-yard touchdown toss to Levi Kistler. The Stratton-Kistler connection kept it going in the third with a 30-yard scoring pass. Kistler led the Pirates with four catches for 99 yards and two touchdowns.
After Ada scored in the fourth to cap their scoring at 53, Bluffton’s backups came in and got themselves a touchdown with Bret Rummer throwing a three-yard pass to end the game at 53-29.
Starting quarterback Robbie Stratton complete 45 percent of his passes, and had 138 yards on the night and the two touchdowns along with 16 yards rushing.
Zach Wilson led the Pirates with 55 yards on the ground on only nine carries.
The Bluffton defense had a difficult task of slowing down the powerful offense of Ada who rushed for 319 yards for the game.
Bluffton travels to Allen East (0-5) Friday to try and keep their perfect road record intact.
