Volleyball: Beavers move to 2-1 in the HCAC with wins at Anderson

Bluffton was able to rack up two wins over Heartland Conference opponent Anderson and fellow Mennonite school Goshen on Saturday, Sept. 29, putting the Beavers in double-digit victories on the season (11-9, 2-1 HCAC).
Opening with Anderson, the visitors handled the Ravens in four sets (25-14, 32-34, 27-25, 25-17). Leading the Beaver attack was senior Heather Schierer (Crescent Springs, Ky./St. Henry) with a whopping 20 bombers, followed by Kendra Parmenter (Grove City) and fellow freshman Jenny Brown (St. Marys/Memorial) with 15 and 13, respectively. Freshmen setter Mackenzie Lauber (Mansfield/Madison) dished out 47 assists.
Defensively, the Beavers had another winning performance with six players in double digits and another just one shy. Junior libero Hailey Phillips (Malinta/Patrick Henry) garnered 29 shovels, followed by Schierer at 15 and junior Lindsay Krohn (Marysville, Ind./New Washington) with 12. Freshman Danica Hicks (Convoy/Crestview) and sophomore Kristyn Hovest (Pandora-Gilboa) chipped in with 11 each. Parmenter added nine of her own, leaving her just one dig shy of her first double double.
Up next, the Beavers took on fellow Mennonite school Goshen College, winning in straight sets (25-23, 25-17, 25-18). On the attack, Parmenter and Schierer led the Beavers at 10 kills apiece with Lauber handing out 29 assists. Phillips added another double-digit effort to her performance with 15 digs, followed by Krohn, Lauber and Schierer all at five digs apiece.
The Beavers head back home Wednesday, Oct. 3 to take on regional-power Heidleberg University at 7 p.m. in Founders Hall.
