Jason Yost, a worship leader and free-lance musician residing in Bluffton, will be traveling to San Luis Potosi, Mexico to perform with the San Luis Potosi Symphony Orchestra with his saxophone quartet, Sax 4th Avenue.

The Toledo-based group leaves Tuesday, Oct. 23, to begin rehearsals with the symphony in preparation for a Friday evening performance, Oct. 26.

Yost (baritone saxophone) earned both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in music education from BGSU and is pursuing a master’s degree in theological studies from Winebrenner Seminary.

He has performed professionally throughout the Midwest since 1990 and makes regular appearances with the Lima and Toledo Symphony Orchestras, as well as the Toledo Concert Band. As a founding member of Sax 4th Avenue and 17 year veteran of the Toledo Jazz Orchestra, he has recorded with both groups on Delusions de Grandeur, Groovin', and Out of Nowhere.

Most Yost, Jason performed for the national Broadway tour of Billy Elliott and has played with such artists as Steve Lippia, The Four Freshman, The Temptations, and Manhattan Transfer. In addition to performing, he enjoys being an audio and lighting mentor for churches and schools.

He taught instrumental and choral music in both public and private schools for 10 years before moving into vocational ministry as an ordained pastor and accomplished worship leader.

Sax 4th Avenue is an exciting and innovative saxophone quartet from the Toledo area. Since its formation in 1991, the quartet has entertained audiences throughout the Midwest with its unique brand of virtuosity, showmanship and humor.

The quartet's high-energy performances feature the classics of Bach, Haydn and Bizet; the unique jazz-fusion of Phil Woods; and the progressive rock of King Crimson and Emerson, Lake and Palmer. Sax 4th Avenue's expanding repertoire includes the finest in saxophone literature, original compositions, jazz standards and music that incorporates improvisation and choreography.
