The Bluffton University women's soccer team scored the first goal of the game after an opening period that featured tough defense by both sides, but the Franklin College Grizzlies quickly answered and went on to post a 2-1 conference victory on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012. Bluffton dropped to 3-10-1 on the season and 1-4-1 in the Heartland Conference, while Franklin improved to 5-6-3 on the season and 1-3-3 in the HCAC.
Junior Megan Moreo (Spencerville/Delphos Jefferson) capitalized just 39 seconds into the second period, giving Bluffton a 1-0 lead over Franklin. The visiting team then quickly responded with a goal less than 40 seconds later. In minute 62, the Grizzlies added a penalty kick conversion to take the lead and clinch the victory.
The Grizzlies finished with a 13-10 advantage in shots. Bluffton and Franklin forced the same number of corner kicks with three each while Bluffton committed one more foul (16-15). Sophomore Taylor Fultz (Camden/Preble Shawnee) led the Beavers with three shot attempts and Maddie Moore (Linn Grove, Ind./South Adams) followed with two shots.
Bluffton will look to get back into the win column when the Beavers travel to rival Defiance College on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012. The contest is slated for 3:30 p.m.
