15 minutes with Belicia Cooper, Bluffton University student from Painesville, and a member of the Bluffton University women's basketball team. This interview was conducted by Derek Woods, Bluffton University intern working this fall for The Icon.
What year are you at Bluffton?
I'm a sophomore and plan to graduate in 2015.
What is your major?
I'm a Criminal Justice major.
Tell us about your summer job.
I worked in a salon and babysat.
When did you first begin to play basketball?
I first began playing when I was 7.
Are there other members of your family who play basketball?
Yes.
How many team mascots have you played for?
I've been a Roadrunner and now am a Beaver.
Tell us about the best-ever game you've had.
My best would have to be when I was 7. My mom was my coach. She had put me in with 10 seconds left, she had made a play for me to shoot the winning shot. I finally got the ball and didn’t know what to do so I just threw it up and it went in.
At Bluffton, have you lettered?
Not yet.
What’s your regular weekly routine involving basketball?
Every Monday to Thursday I'm playing from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
What part of the game comes easiest for you?
Defense.
What part of the game do you really need to work on?
I'd say offense and shooting perimeter.
How did you decide to attend Bluffton?
I found it to be very family-oriented.
How do you balance basketball and academics?
I spend a lot of time in the LRC (Learning Resouorce Center).
Where would you like to be 10 years from now?
I'd like to be working for the FBI or CIA.
Seriously?
Yes, seriously.
