Jeff Sprague named president of Allen Economic Development Group
Bluffton resident Jeff Sprague was named president of the Allen Economic Development Group yesterday, succeeding outgoing president Marcel Wagner, who has held the position since 1994.
The announcement was part of the Allen Economic Development Group five-year Leadership Transition Plan.
"As chair of the Allen Economic Development Board, I would like to thank Marcel for his years of service and appreciate his contribution to the Allen Economic Development Group," said Eric Pohjala, board chairman.
Sprague has served as vice president of the organization since 2008 and has worked closely with Wagner, the AEDG Board, Allen County Commissioners and the Visionaries in establishing a long-term strategic plan for the organization; ensuring a successful transition when Wagner steps down this month.
Sprague has focused the past five years on attracting new business and growing existing
business throughout the region , working closely with city and county officials to coordinate economic development activities, and diligently forging strong partnerships with regional and state agencies.
"Jeff has exhibited tremendous leadership over the years and has undeniably helped to
navigate AEDG through this transition period and I look forward to his future leadership," said Eric Pohjala, board chairman.
Sprague has spent the majority of his professional career in workforce development, training and community outreach and has served in key positions with the Ohio Department of Development.
He has worked extensively with federal, state and local economic development agencies to assist in the training needs of new or expanding industry and built strategic relationships with business, education, health care and economic development organizations throughout the region.
Sprague obtained his master's degree in business administration from Ashland University and his undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University. In addition, he completed General Motors College Graduate Management Training Program in Dayton, Ohio.
Sprague has served in leadership positions with the Allen County Port Authority, Ohio Port Authority, Lima Allen County Chamber of Commerce, West Central Ohio Regional Development Corporation and Marimor Industries, among others.
