Freshman Brooke Ruffer named Second Team All-Heartland Conference
Bluffton University freshman Brooke Ruffer (Stryker) was recently named Second Team All-Heartland Conference for the 2012-13 women’s basketball season.
The HCAC women’s basketball coaches selected six players for the first team and six players for the second team. In addition, Ruffer was one of five ladies selected to the All-Freshman Team.
Brooke Ruffer followed an outstanding freshman volleyball season with a superb first year on the hardwood, earning All-HCAC honors in women’s basketball. She led the Beavers with 11.7 PPG (her 292 points were the fifth-highest total ever for a freshman) and 7.6 RPG.
Ruffer finished in the top 10 of the Heartland Conference in rebounds (3rd), field goal percentage (7th) and scoring (9th).
The versatile forward hit double figures 17 times this season, including 10 of the last 13 games. She scored a career-high 22 points in a win over Rose-Hulman and also racked up six double-doubles in her first year.
In conjunction with the All-Heartland Conference awards, the conference has announced the All-HCAC Sportsmanship Team for the 2012-13.
This award has been developed as part of a conference-wide sportsmanship initiative. Members of the All-HCAC Sportsmanship team are selected by the coaches and their teammates as individuals who demonstrate the ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field/court of competition.
Bluffton sophomore Rachel DeBord (Lebanon) was recognized for her sportsmanship this season.
