Last Halloween these girls were a vampire, a cat, a pumpkin and an '80s person
This week, The Icon talked with four third graders, Presley Nelson (student in Mrs. Bogart’s class), Olivia McCamery (Armstrong), Skyler Scoles (Raeburn), and Makala Nye (Kingsley).
What’s your favorite third grade subject?
Presley: Math. I like the math facts.
Olivia: Reading. I read three or four books a week.
Skyler: Reading. Books are interesting.
Makala: Science and social studies.
What are your household chores at home?
Makala: I help with the dishes and the laundry.
Olivia: I clean my room.
Presley: I clean my room.
Skyler: I put away the laundry.
What did you dress up for Halloween last year and what would you like to dress up for this year?
Makala: I was a vampire. I’d like to be a werewolf.
Olivia: I was a cat. I’d like to be a nurse.
Presley: Pumpkin. I’d like to be a doctor.
Skyler: I dressed up as an ‘80s person. This year I’d like to be a cowgirl.
Who is the oldest person you know?
Skyler: My aunt was 96, but she died.
Olivia: My big brother is 13. He’s in the sixth grade, I think.
Presley: My step-dad. I think he’s 33.
Makala: I think my great grandmother was 99 when she died.
If I would give each of you $100 what would you do with it?
Makala: I’d buy healthy food like broccoli. I’d also buy lots of books. My Weird School Daz books.
Olivia: I’d buy candy. Any kind.
Presley: Tons of books.
Skyler: Stuffed animals. A dog first.
If you could speak a second language, what language would you want to learn?
Olivia: Spanish. My grandpa likes Mexican food.
Makala: French or Spanish. I like France and Mexico.
Skyler: French.
Presley: Spanish.
What musical instrument would you like to learn to play?
Olivia: Drums. My big brothers play drums.
Makala: Drums. I have some.
Presley: Piano.
Skyler: Guitar and drums. I already take piano lessons. I started last year.
If you could solve any problem in the world, what problem would you like to solve?
Makala: Where did the Titanic sink.
Olivia: Stop pollution.
Presley: Stop killing.
Skyler: Take guns away from people.
Who is your favorite character in a book you’ve read?
Olivia: Laura from Little House on the Prairie. I would like to be her. I like her adventures and I’d like to live when she lived.
Skyler: Tanya in 13 Treasurers. She is 13 and sees fairies and no one else can.
Presley: Aubrey. She’s an 11-year-old girl. It’s kind of sad but good.
I’m guessing you have Barbies. Tell me about them.
Presley: I have a tub of them. Nineteen. My mom gave me one she had.
Olivia: I have a doll that my grandma gave me. It can talk when you pull a string.
Skyler: I have a mermaid Barbie.
Makala: This will be embarrassing. My favorite toy is a toy car. And, I have five or six Barbies. They are in a big plastic box. I have nurse Barbie.
Olivia: I have Barbies all over the place. Probably 100. Some are snapped in half.
Skyler: I have 18. They are in a closet.
If you could invent a game, what would it be?
Olivia: A Barbie game. You’d shop in it.
Skyler: A monster truck game.
Makala: Another Zelda game.
Presley: A book game. Read a book as fast as you can and answer questions about it.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
Olivia: A doctor.
Skyler: A cowgirl and ride a horse.
Makala: A dogcatcher and artist who draws animals.
Presley: A heart surgeon.
One more question. What’s your favorite stuffed animal?
Makala: A teddy bear. I’ve had it since the day I was born. It’s called Buddy.
Olivia: Two dogs, Butterscotch and Heart.
Presley: A stuffed panda. It’s little. I call it Oreo.
Skyler: A dog, Enis.
