Richland Manor pie baking contest is "easy as pie"
It’s difficult to know which the residents and contestants at Richland Manor’s pie baking contest enjoyed more – making their pies, or tasting them, as bakers and tasters alike lined up to sample the entries at the campus’ Pie Baking Contest recently.
Prior to the contest, Richland Manor residents Ruth Wildermuth and Michele Cardone made a homemade crust for the Caramel Chocolate Apple Crunch Pie they were entering in the contest on behalf of the residents Cooking Club.
“I’m so excited to enter our pie in the contest,” Ruth said. “I’m especially looking forward to tasting the other entries.”
April Dorman, Richland Manor’s Director of Resident Activities, added that she loves keeping the residents active and involved in the activities they enjoy.
“The cooking club is a popular activity at Richland Manor,” April said. “Our residents are always baking up something delicious to share with staff, family and friends.”
Fifteen pies were entered in the competition, and the event boasted a great turnout.
Competition winners included:
• 1st place Berry Pie: Katie Hohenbrink – Blueberry Cherry Pie
• 1st place Cream Pie: Katie Hohenbrink – Chocolate Raspberry Cream Pie
• 1st place Miscellaneous Pie: Jeanne Sumney – Margarita Pie
• People’s Choice: Barb Hohenbrink – Peanut Butter Pie
• Honorable Mention – Richland Manor Cooking Club – Caramel Chocolate Apple Crunch Pie
Richland Manor resident, Melinda McDougle, said “I enjoyed having my family out to the campus to participate in this event with me.”
Richland Manor also extends a special thanks to the competition judges: Claudia Crawford, Deb Curlis, Roger Guyton and Jessica Rospert.
