Men's soccer: Muskingum sneaks past Beavers
The Bluffton University men's soccer team headed south for its first road match of the season at Muskingum University on a balmy Tuesday, Sept. 10.
Playing under the lights, Bluffton was unable to find its rhythm offensively as the home team netted a 2-0 victory over the Beavers.
With less than three minutes to play in the opening period, Muskingum made it 1-0 when a Bluffton header went awry. Cody Sprague took advantage as the home team finished the period with a 10-4 advantage in shots.
Bluffton forced the action in period two, putting up three more shots than Muskingum (7-4), However, the Fighting Muskies again found the back of the net midway through to cap off their 2-0 shutout of the Beavers. Andreas Pfeffercorn used a touch from John Barr for his sixth goal of the season.
Muskingum finished with a slim 14-11 edge in shots to go along with its 10-6 advantage in corner kicks. T.J. Kline (Mogadore/Lake Center Christian), Peter Carlson (Toledo/Springfield), Adrian Ramirez (Archbold) and Grant Stutzman (Sugarcreek/Hiland) all fired two shots for the Beavers.
A road trip to Wittenberg is the next item on the agenda for the Beavers who will travel to Springfield on Saturday, Sept. 14. The match is slated for 3:30 p.m.
