The Beavers traveled to Hanover, Ind., to take on the Hanover College Panthers in an HCAC match-up on Saturday, Oct. 19. It was a rough day for Bluffton as a determined Hanover team took care of business, handing the visitors a 41-0 loss. The Beavers slipped to 1-6 on the season and 1-4 in the HCAC, while Hanover improved to 2-4 and 2-2 in the Heartland Conference.
After a scoreless first period, the home team broke it open with four touchdowns in the second quarter for a 28-0 lead at the break. The Panthers racked up 300 more yards than the Beavers (431-126). Bluffton struggled on third down with two conversions in 15 attempts, while Hanover capitalized on seven of its 13 opportunities.
Senior back C.J. Sewell (Lima/Shawnee) led the Bluffton offense with 60 rushing yards on 16 carries. Junior standout Donovan Brown (Cincinnati/Purcell Martin) caught three passes for 25 yards to pace the Bluffton receivers.
Junior linebacker Paul Shroyer (Pataskala) led the Beaver defense with seven tackles and a fumble recovery.
The Beavers have a bye week next Saturday and will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 2 when they welcome Anderson University to Salzman Stadium for our Barefoot Game to support Samaritan's Feet. The HCAC contest is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
