Ada mayor Friday chamber breakfast speaker; human resource workshop follows breakfast
The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce will hold two events open to the public on Friday, Nov. 8. Those events include the monthly chamber breakfast followed by a workshop on human resources.
David Retterer, mayor of Ada, is the guest speaker at the breakfast. He is an associate professor of mathematics and computer science at Ohio Northern University. His wife, Deb, is a pharmacist at Greg's Pharmacy, Bluffton.
All events take place in the third floor of the town hall. Jeanne’s Kitchen is the breakfast provider. Serving for the free breakfast is from 7 to 7:30 a.m. The chamber meeting, which is open to the public, starts at 7:30 a.m.
The meeting will recognize members of the Bluffton American Legion Post 384 who are Korean War veterans. Jerry Cupples and John Wagner assisted the chamber in bringing this recognition together in conjunction with Veterans Day.
In addition, several new chamber members will be recognized including:
• The Community Foundation, Findlay
• Fairway Inn
• Devine Interventions
• Bluffton PTO
• Richard “Santa” Gainey
The following chamber members who have recently launched their businesses will receive their first $1 coins:
• Paula Scott
• Sycamore Lake Wine Co.
• Fairway Inn
8:45 a.m. human resources workshop
Following the breakfast is a free workshop titled “What you don’t know you don’t know about human resources.” Sally Siferd, PHR, will lead the workshop.
Siferd has been a certified Professional in Human Resources since 1997. Prior to coming to Bluffton University, she was the owner of a human resources consulting business, HR House Call, LLC, for nearly four years. She helped small businesses who did not have someone on staff dedicated to human resource issues.
Siferd found that small business owners and professional organizations are great entrepreneurs, but had limited knowledge of the laws governing employers and the expectations of today's employees. She will share some insight and tips for small business owners at the workshop.
Persons interested in attending both or either Friday event should RSVP to the chamber at [email protected].
